If you are from WA, Wittenoom is definitely a place you will have heard of. In the 1950’s and early 1960’s, Wittenoom was an asbestos mine, but growing health concerns meant it was eventually shut down around the 1970’s.

In 1978, the effects of pleural abnormalities and other asbestos-related diseases were beginning to show up in former mine workers.

It is a requirement when removing asbestos that the vacuum used has a HEPA filter. We would not be able to do our job without these amazing vacuums.

Once asbestos is removed, it is very carefully wrapped, taped up and labelled. Asbestos is never thrown or aggressively handled as it is such a high-risk material which can become very brittle over time.
