Background, Control, and Clearance Air Monitoring: What’s the Difference?
Different types of air monitoring are used during asbestos projects to assess risk at various stages of work.
Background air monitoring is undertaken prior to the commencement of works to establish baseline fibre levels, particularly in occupied or sensitive environments. Control air monitoring is conducted during removal activities to verify that enclosures, negative pressure units, and work practices are effective in preventing fibre escape. Clearance air monitoring occurs after removal and cleaning are complete to confirm the area is safe for reoccupation.
North West Asbestos & Demolition Solutions incorporates all three monitoring types where required, based on project risk and client expectations. Understanding the purpose of each monitoring stage helps the client interpret results correctly and supports transparent communication and safety throughout the project.
